ABOUT SAMANTHA

Editor, Filmmaker

Throughout my life, I’ve had a passion for pushing the limits and boundaries in the film and media industry. The rewarding aspect is when an individual can personally connect with the content in front of them, even if it is for a moment. My journey to being an editor started in middle school when everyone did the same presentation; I asked to make a short film instead. The students and teachers were amazed at my strengths and storytelling — that was when I knew editing would be my career.

Moving forward in life, I captured every moment through media with nature, animals, friends, family, even food. I was fascinated and focused on making sure every shot had a meaning behind it with various cameras on hand.

After high school, I attended Oakland Community College to take my general education classes, and afterwards transferred to Grand Valley State University. I took every moment to enhance my editing skills, connect with professors, professionals, and immersed myself in film and media. During my time at Grand Valley, I also studied abroad at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. My classes focused on advanced post-production editing skills. Unfortunately, during my time studying abroad, I had severe health problems that resulted in becoming nonverbal. The administration gave me a choice to fly back home, give up, and not continue, but I persisted. I told myself that nothing would get in the way of my dream career.

During my time at Grand Valley, select classmates and I directly worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Alpena, Michigan. Working as a team, we created short documentaries about the Great Lakes, the importance of historic landmarks, and pushed the limits of media to preserve the ecosystem.

After graduation, I accepted an Internship with Contact Light Films in Los Angeles. I was an assistant editor on the film When We Were Apollo, which recently won an Emmy for Best Documentary. From there, I worked with Val Kilmer on projects, as well as his social media content. I then decided to head back to Detroit, Michigan to further my career as an editor.

With the creative industry bursting out of Michigan, I accepted a job as an assistant editor role for Doner Advertising. While working there, I assisted on commercials for FCA, McDonald’s, Fairlife, Simply, Natures Bounty, Amazon, Netflix, The UPS Store, Hungry Howie’s, Smithfield, and Bush’s Baked Beans, to name a few. After two years, I knew it was time to move on; I needed to break out of the box and became an editor at Rad Studios. With the pandemic hitting America, I decided to focus more on my freelance work. I accomplished all of this non verbally with rave reviews from coworkers and bosses; I set the film and media industry standard higher than ever before.

The world is constantly changing every second, and I am here to capture those moments. With that, I continue to expand my skills in video editing, motion graphics, and photography. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to chat or know more about me.
